With history from 1490, the building exhibits ghostly manifestations. these include a previous proprietor and a number of boys from a religious seminary of the 16th century. In 1775, the then proprietor, Betty Radcliffe, , an assailant took this person’s life, in her bed by a jealous lover, for which he was later hanged. Although she was in her forties when an assailant took her life, she manifests as a teenage girl and merrily laughing. In the 16th century, there was a Jesuit school on the site, with a number of the boys there died from fevers and other illnesses. It is clear that the youths that appear as phantoms are from that period, as they are wearing the uniform of postulants and novitiates. Many years ago, there was a leper colony at nearby Thetford Warren. One phantom in that area manifests in a white gown, horribly disfigured and gibbering with rage. There is also local lore of an old palace, which had been buried away under local Castle Hill. Inside, there is much gold and treasure and six bells from Thetford Priory. These had been hidden to save them from the depredations of Henry 8th during the Dissolution of the Monasteries in the late 1530s.
