Bedford Arms

High Street, Toddington, Dunstable, Bedfordshire

Observers rarely see the ghost here. It is more often heard walking in the upper parts of the building. Nonetheless, the ‘The Captain’ has sporadically made an appearance. Witnesses say he is a large bearded man wearing a seafaring uniform. Many years ago, a sea captain was staying here with committed suicide. He had returned from sea to find his wife with child had been murdered in Toddington. After a short period of grief, he hanged himself in a bedroom of the pub. A Royalist cavalier also haunts the Bedford Arms from the English Civil War. This middle-aged man, witnesses have seen, standing beside the fireplace in the small bar. He, observers describe, as a small man, wearing a red tunic, plumed hat with leaning on a cane.
