Menzies Flitwick Manor
Church Road, Flitwick
A former manor house, it is now a country hotel in superb surroundings. In the early 1800s, Flitwick Manor was the home of the family of John Thomas Brooks with his wife. It remained within the family for over two centuries until the family name died out in 1934. During its time, Flitwick Manor has had numerous reported accounts of a ghostly woman seen sitting at the foot of beds in the hotel rooms. Witnesses saw her head with shoulders peering from upper floor windows. This phantom, observers describe, as wearing a long black or dark blue dress with a bunch of keys on a belt. Reports maintain it to be the ghost of a previous housekeeper that first appeared when builders on renovation opened up a previously unknown room. A more frequent phantom is that of the first Mrs Brooks who lost her daughter, Mary Ann in tragic circumstances.
