The White Horse
The Street, Pleshey, Chelmsford, Essex
The stone built pub has history from the late 15th century. He still maintains much of its ancient character. Some of the original timbers and flooring are obvious in the restaurant. Original roof timbers can still be seen upstairs. At this four centuries old inn, there have been reports over many years of a ghost woman. She is dressed in a blue gown, with gliding through the premises holding a cat. The theory is that she could have been an old village woman, hanged for being a witch, centuries previously. Many women were executed after torture and short trials purely based on being old. If they also had one or several cats, it showed they were in league with the Devil, as cats were among his familiars.
