The Dun Cow
Green Drove, Christchurch, Wisbech, Cambridgeshire
Way out on the Fens, the Dun Cow has stood for two centuries. It exhibits ghostly manifestations. These include by two boatmen who came to an untimely end 150 years ago. Reports claim it they drowned when out duck shooting. People brought back their bodies to the inn where authorities held an inquest. Both are still in residence as ghosts, surrounded by the odour of wet tweed clothing. People carried out Duck shooting usually from flat-bottomed boats with a Fen gun mounted at the prow. Dun is a dull grey-brown colour. It may have applied to a particular breed of cattle in this part of the county. A proprietor named the inn after it.
