This is a great pub where everyone is welcomed by friendly staff and chatty local drinkers. Beer is always clear and fresh. It is cycle friendly with large family friendly garden at rear. Past landlord and landlady were convinced of a ghost on the premises during the 90s, although haven't heard about it lately. It is the last bar before High Lodge if you are on way to picnic or music concert and it will still be open when you leave. The beer is cheap, £2.25 for Carlsberg and IPA. Greene King are presently talking of closing The Duke to prop one of their less welcoming premises and this would be a tragedy and a travesty.
