The George Hotel
65 High Street, Ramsey, Huntingdon, Cambridgeshire
It is a fine example of a Georgian coaching inn. The entrance to the yard for coaches with village waggons shows at one side. The inn exhibits ghostly manifestations. These include Mary, a former proprietor who died in a fire many years ago. Reports claim that she hates naked flames. She even blows out candles with matches. In 1665, the plague came to Ramsey. It supposedly arrived through a contaminated coat sent from London to Major William Cromwell. Many of the local people died. The ghosts are some of the people that the plague affected. Having died, they still walk the streets of Ramsey late at night.
