The New Inn

18 High Street, St. Neots, Cambridgeshire, Saint Neots

During the English Civil War, the Earl of Holland lodged here before authorities took him to London for his execution. For the past three centuries, there have been sightings of the ghost of a tall man in a long cloak nobly proceeding through the inn. Witnesses have said he peers around, with disappears through a locked door. Recognised as the executed earl, he has also, witnesses saw, sitting at a table with a long piece of parchment before him, with holding a large quill pen. The present pub is early Victorian. However, it is on the site of a previous inn. In fact, the name ‘New Inn’ usually indicates that it is on the site of a much older one.
