The Black Bull
27 High St, Balsham, Cambridge, Cambridgeshire
A Second-grade listed thatched inn with history from the 17th century. The coaching age, the Black Bull has extant in the way of old exposed timbers. Balsham exhibits ghostly manifestations. These include the ‘shuck’ a ghost of ancient legends, which has been observed with described as having a baldhead. He had wide eyes, similar to that of a monkey. The body is that of a large black shaggy dog. Observers have seen this fearsome animal, in the pub car park, on the road outside the Black Bull. It leaps in front of cars travelling along this road, only to dart away at the last possible second, on all four legs or standing upright. Inside the pub is the ghost of a man in a 1920s style suit wearing brown with white footwear, locals knew, at that time as ‘co- respondent’s shoes’.
