This country pub must have the photographic images recorded of ghosts in England. Local spirit photographer, Ron Bowers, has produced many photographs over the years, which clearly show almost solid and translucent figures at this pub. At one time, it was in use as a courtroom for trials. Subsequently, a large number of people were hanged on a nearby scaffold. It is a 17th century former coaching inn. The licensees and their family have been interviewed on television, telling of what they have seen. The ghosts manifest in the bathroom, bedrooms, with there is one old woman, dressed as a Victorian charlady. Witnesses see her walk through. The daughter of the licensees said, ‘She looked just like a normal person’. Other ghosts have been witnessed outside the pub near the old gallows site.
