The Woodmans Stroke
1 Church St, Rothley, Leicester, Leicestershire
An elderly resident of Rothley took up residence here as a phantom many years ago. Now he is , locals knew, as ‘Gregory’, with believed to have stayed on since it was a funeral parlour. There is another belief that Gregory had lived at the pub until the First World War, with had been killed during that period. According to reports by licensees, his ghost inhabits the older parts of the pub, which have history from the 12th century. A comparatively recent proprietor saw Gregory as a tall dark man, standing at the front door. She explained that they were not yet open, with Gregory vanished. A ghostly handprint has appeared on a small windowpane that would reappear after being cleaned away. Paranormal experts studied this. However, they had no explanation.
