The Sun Inn
West Bars, Chesterfield, Derbyshire
A splendid building, it is designed in the style of the 1890s architectural revival of grandiose inns; this inn exhibits ghostly manifestations. These include at least one man and poltergeists. During the 18th century, a coachman and an assailant took this person’s life, in the pub. His body was thrown down a well in the cellars. His ghost has survived. He makes his presence felt by loud stamping as he walks about during the night. On occasions, there has been an active poltergeist in those cellars, smashing bottles. He moves beer barrels around, with heavy rolling sounds.
