Crown and Anchor
Tetney Lock Rd, Tetney, Grimsby, South Humberside
On the edge of the old lock, the Crown and Anchor is a small, white painted, early Victorian pub. The ghost that haunts this building has added a new dimension to tempus fugit; it throws the pub clock about. When it is least expected, this clock flies off the wall as though thrust by invisible hands, with lands at least six feet away. At one time, there were secret tunnels under the pub, used by smugglers to bring in their contraband. One old village story is that several outlaws were trapped in the tunnel by a rising tide and drowned. Their wandering ghosts would account for odd black shapes seen during the night.
