Wheatsheaf
1 High Street South, Rushden
Both agreed that the Wheatsheaf was disturbed by ‘black things’ in the night and evil shrieks. It was haunted by the wife of a proprietor from the 1880s and she had been told this by her own grandmother. It appeared that the then proprietor had threatened to shoot his wife and then assaulted her quite savagely. Authorities arrested him and taken to Wellingborough Police Court. There is a history behind the female ghost. The proprietor had been threatened. However, she refused to take action. Subsequently she had been killed by her husband.
