Hercules Inn
Main Street, Sutton Cheney, Nuneaton, Warwickshire
Once a popular name for pubs, it was after the two rocks, which mark the entrance to the Mediterranean, Gibraltar and Mount Hacho. This Hercules is an old coaching inn and parts of it have history from the 17th century. It is opposite the parish church where Richard 3rd is reputed to have made his last confession the night before the battle of Bosworth Field. The ghost that haunts this pub is that of Mary McDonagh. She had had her hands cut off for stealing brandy at the pub. When she manifests, she is wearing a white mobcap and typically seen in the present dining room. The poor creature is also held responsible for poltergeist activities.
