The Dog and Duck
Main Rd, Kings Clipstone, Mansfield, Nottinghamshire
There has been a pub on this site for 150 years. It was also a farmhouse for part of that time. It takes its name from a once popular sport of ‘duck hunting’. This was particularly attractive to Charles 2nd, with those who surrounded him. The birds had their wings pinioned, thrown into the water of a pond or lake, with the spaniels turned loose to hunt them out. A rather wicked ghost haunts the Dog and Duck, making weird sounds and turning off beer taps. There is further much clattering of pots and pans in the kitchen during the night. The resident poltergeist has been held responsible for this paranormal activity.
