Many years ago, a proprietor’s wife burned to death in an attic room at the Boat Inn. She had been suffering from mental illness for several years. No one ever discovered how the fire started. The proprietor had made a gallant effort to reach and rescue his wife. The fire seriously burned him. However, to no avail. From time to time, observers see her ghost. She sits in the bar or looking through the window of the room where she died.
