An opulent inn, the Lion Hotel has a magnificent coaching entrance and outstanding portico with white pillars. Inside, it has beamed ceilings and open fires. It is sad to read of the number of people who have taken their own lives due to unrequited love in pubs and inns throughout the country. During the 1800s, a woman called Alice hanged herself here when the owner of the hotel rejected her love. When her ghost does make an appearance, it is invariably in the older parts of the hotel.
